Infant nutrition decisions can feel harder when advice, feeding products and other people’s routines all arrive at once. Start with your baby’s care plan and the questions you need answered, rather than choosing equipment first.
This page preserves the original feeding video and adds five checks for cues, growth questions, formula handling, equipment and caregiver communication. You will get a practical note-taking plan to bring to your care team.
Watch the original video resource
Watch the original video on YouTube. The written checklist below is iBabyMama editorial context, not a transcript or a claim that every point appears in the video.
1. Infant nutrition starts with responsive feeding
Ask your care team how to recognize your baby’s hunger and fullness cues. Offer a feed when appropriate and notice when your baby wants to pause or stop. AAP responsive-feeding guidance can help you understand the approach without turning one baby’s pattern into a rule for all babies.
Write down questions that arise while watching: what cue did you notice, what happened next and what remains unclear? Use those questions in a feeding-support appointment.
2. Bring growth questions to your care team
Feeding comfort, growth and diaper patterns need to be considered together. Do not use an online bottle-volume target to decide that a newborn is doing well or poorly. Ask which changes your clinician wants you to report promptly.
If breastfeeding is painful or bottle-feeding is difficult, seek help with the actual feed. A description of what happens is more useful than changing several products at once and losing track of the problem.
3. Follow the formula label and storage guidance
If you use formula, follow the label for the correct water-to-formula ratio and preparation. CDC advises using prepared formula within two hours of preparation and within one hour after feeding starts, and discarding bottle leftovers. Follow the separate refrigeration instructions when applicable.
Do not apply formula storage timing to expressed breast milk. Keep the appropriate instructions for the milk you use where another caregiver can find them, including any special instructions from your care team.
A bottle option to compare: Dr. Brown’s narrow bottles
This observed four-pack contains 4 oz narrow bottles with a vent system. Check the current nipple stage, assembly and cleaning directions. A bottle design is not a guarantee of less gas or easier feeding. Choose equipment that fits your care plan and ask for feeding support when needed.

4. Check the equipment you already use
Look for the instructions supplied with the bottle, nipple, pump or other feeding item. Confirm how it comes apart, how each part is cleaned and how to reassemble it. Do not assume that similar-looking parts are interchangeable.
Prepare an organized place for clean items. If another adult is helping, show them the routine once and make the instructions easy to find. Keep packaging information until you are confident you have the right parts.
5. Make an infant nutrition handoff note
A helpful handoff can include the last feed, the next task and a question to follow up. Keep the note factual. Avoid labels such as “bad feeder” that do not explain what happened.
Record the care team’s contact details and which concerns need prompt advice. If your baby seems unwell or is hard to wake for feeds, seek help rather than waiting for a written schedule to catch up.
Your next infant nutrition conversation
Choose one unresolved question from the video, bring the feeding equipment details if relevant and discuss your baby’s actual pattern with your care team. Our paced bottle-feeding guide provides related editorial context.
A caregiver hydration option: Contigo water bottle
This 24 oz reusable bottle is for the adult caregiver, not an infant feeding bottle. Check the current lid and cleaning instructions. Keeping your own water accessible may make feeding breaks easier to organize; it does not guarantee milk supply or replace nutrition advice.
