Thinking about new parent mistakes to avoid can make daily care feel like a test. A more useful starting point is knowing which instructions matter and who can help when a question comes up.
Here you will find the original Bridget Teyler video, plus three independent checks for sleep, feeding supplies and support. You will also get a short caregiver handoff checklist and two optional supply comparisons. Start with the first check today, then share the plan with anyone helping you.
Original video: new parent mistakes to avoid
The original post introduced a video offering ten parenting tips. The linked YouTube page identifies the creator as Bridget Teyler. Watch the source for her full discussion; the checklist below is separately written guidance, rather than a transcript or a claim to reproduce her ten points.

1. Check the sleep setup before adding accessories
The AAP safe-sleep guide recommends placing infants on their backs for sleep on a firm, flat surface in suitable infant sleep equipment. Use the correct mattress and fitted sheet, without pillows, toys or loose bedding.
Room sharing uses a separate infant sleep space. A car seat, swing or carrier does not replace it. Swaddling is optional, does not prevent SIDS and should stop when the baby shows signs of trying to roll. Avoid weighted sleep products.
Put the equipment instructions where caregivers can find them. If a part is missing or the setup is unclear, resolve that question before using it. Buying an accessory is not a substitute for checking the exact equipment and instructions.
Our newborn sleep guide offers further planning questions. Share the same sleep instructions with everyone providing care.
2. Plan feeding cleanup alongside the feeding plan
Ask for individual help with feeding effectiveness, preparation or bottle flow when needed. Write down the relevant instructions so another caregiver can follow them. A bottle’s marketing category cannot tell you whether a particular nipple flow suits your baby.
The CDC feeding-item cleaning guide recommends cleaning bottles after each feed and separating the parts. Follow an appropriate washing method, allow cleaned items to air-dry thoroughly and store them in a clean protected area.
Sanitizing needs additional attention for babies under two months, babies born prematurely and those with weakened immune systems. Use the full CDC instructions and the item’s manufacturer guidance to choose an appropriate method; a quick rinse is not the same as cleaning.
Optional supply: Dr. Brown’s Options+ Narrow Baby Bottles, 4 oz, 4 Pack
The observed Dr. Brown’s set contains four 4 oz narrow bottles with internal vents. Compare the nipple flow, vent parts and cleaning instructions with your feeding plan. Extra parts also need appropriate cleaning. An anti-colic label does not guarantee easier feeds, less crying or better sleep.

If you already have suitable supplies, you may not need another set. Our paced bottle-feeding guide provides questions to discuss about feeding technique.
3. Ask for help before trying another parenting trick
The AAP crying guide recommends checking care needs and responding with appropriate comfort, such as holding, gentle rocking, talking or singing. A single sound or gesture does not diagnose the cause of crying.
Seek advice if crying is unusual, persistent or you suspect illness. When you feel overwhelmed, put the baby in a safe place such as their crib and ask a suitable person for help. Never shake or hit a baby.
Make requests specific: help with a household task, clean feeding equipment or a supported break. Asking for practical help does not mean you have failed. It is part of planning care.

Frequently asked questions
Does this checklist reproduce the video’s ten tips?
No. The original embed and source link are preserved, while this checklist is independent supporting content. Use the source video for the creator’s full discussion.
Do new parent mistakes to avoid require more products?
Often the next step is clarifying instructions or arranging help. Compare supplies only when they meet a real need; no shopping list guarantees easier parenting.
Can an anti-colic bottle solve every feeding problem?
No. Discuss difficulties with the care team and check technique, flow and the individual feeding plan. A product label cannot diagnose the cause.
Where should I begin?
Check the sleep setup, make feeding instructions accessible and identify someone you can ask for help. Keep the plan simple enough to share.
Optional cleanup supplies near your feeding area
Optional supply: Yoofoss Muslin Burp Cloths, White, 10 Pack, 20 by 10 inches
The observed Yoofoss White ten-pack contains 20 by 10 inch cloths listed as 100% cotton muslin. Compare the quantity and care instructions with your laundry routine. Organic certification has not been independently verified. Use for supervised cleanup and burping, keep loose cloths out of infant sleep spaces and inspect for wear. These cloths do not prevent reflux, choking or spit-up.

Super helpful, thank you
Hi everyone! I’ve recently started looking into ways to keep track of my child when they’re out without me. I came across location tracking apps and was wondering if anyone here has tried one. Are they actually useful in everyday life?
My baby is 2 months this sleep 8 30 mamie before milk ❤
Love your videos. I don't agree with the not swaddling however. Of course enough close contact is important for the mother baby diad, but I got such better sleep/naps occasionally swaddling my baby that that was super conducive to me being present and loving with him.
❤❤❤
Thank you for appreciating the stress that is placed on parents especially in regards to baby’s sleep. Thanks for pointing out that our job is to keep them safe and take some pressure of our shoulders. ❤️ love your videos
Watching this from Sweden. Swadling is not recommended here.
Watching this on my phone while nursing my newborn.. Hears the electronic device mistake… Yeets phone away like a hot potato 😂
Came back 15mins later after baby was done to finish the video and type this comment 😂
She had me until we got to EMF blockers.🙄
Any evidence that link issues with pregnancy has been mixed, low quality and contradictory. There’s also no solid scientific evidence that links to giving baby cancer. Numerous global health agencies, including WHO and American Cancer Society, do not consider cell phone radiation a proven cancer risk, for adults or children.
Let’s not cause more paranoia than most parents already have, and convince them to splurge on EMF blockers. Many of these are marketed with vague promises without independent verification. Not to mention sometimes adding shielding can reflect or channel radiation in unintended ways or might even amplify fields in certain directions under specific frequencies.
Just do the sensible thing like don’t put your cell phone directly on your baby or let them gnaw on it. For a piece mind, set it to airplane mode when next to crib or switch off any wifi or Bluetooth before going to bed at night.
If its important for contact. He sleeps when in contact but wont afterwards. Sp we can do all of this but this ends up him wanting more right? Were suppose to let him learn or well end up with him when he's 1 or more in our bed? He is a week old.
I love the tip on button toys! I never thought of that.
Can someone recommend the lanonin product she is mentioning to use on baby before putting a nappy for the whole night ? Thank you
I've never really used swaddling extensively. A little bit at the very first, just to help handle my precious baby. But, after a few weeks, I didn't swaddle really at all. I also thought that letting the baby have their hands available is great. It actually helps me today she has her hands to rely on. 😁

I have everything ready for my second baby now because of this girl and book Bornside Mama. It helped me achieve everything
Thanks! Appreciate the tips😁
Excellent information, but you lost me with your views on EMF.
Anyone with even a fundamental understanding of the electromagnetic spectrum can tell you that anything that is emitted by everyday devices poses no risk to humans. This has been studied for decades. There's a lot to be worried about with newborns and children, but this isn't one of them.
That's a load of sh**t about the phone causing cancer. The rest of Bridget's advice is very sound!
great advice, im due in about a month and Thi info is super helpful.
* minus the emf blocker, my husband works in this field and there is very little evidence that emf blockers work, and in some cases can increase emf ( when used improperly) – specially the "stickers" you list.
the blankets and covers completely covering body, is the only way currently to achieve this. ( which Is pretty difficult to do).

i hope people don't take these things as gospel. there are many reasons tight swaddling is the recommendation. your baby has no "friends in the womb". we tight swaddle BECAUSE it mimics the womb. it encourages longer, more comfortable sleep. it prevents the moro reflex as others have stated. tight around the arms and looser around the hips is the recommendation because it prevents scratching, it allows neuromuscular development and prevents hip dysplasia allowing natural hip and leg motion. The most important reason to tight swaddle arms is to prevent SIDS by keeping the child on their back and preventing them from rolling over when they don't have the strength to right themselves if they can't breath from rolling on their face. also, too loose at the top and it can cover their face after motion.
important to note, you should stop swaddling when they show the ability to roll.
also there's no conclusive evidence at all on harm from emf or rf. there's some evidence to suggest susceptibility to ELF (extreme low frequency), but this is not something ever found in households.
Here's data, something that's missing here:

https://hipdysplasia.org/infant-child/hip-healthy-swaddling/
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/16061584/
Overall, ask your qualified pediatricians.these are the people qualified to give this advice.
Thanks for your videos! FYI that I just tried the “Baby Toys 0 – 12 months” link but it said page not found.
I would also love a deep dive on emf video
I did find this quickly though: https://youtu.be/7WrKXqMbyzY
Can you provide any examples of the best baby monitors? I haven’t seen what you mentioned. I’ve been very hesitant about the emf.
Just finished reading ‘Raising Warriors: Preparing Your Children For a Godly Life’ and it really opened my eyes to some new ways of guiding my kids in their faith. Highly recommend it if you’re looking to strenghten your family’s spiritual life
So helpful! And great point about swaddle….I agree, they need their hands out!
Hi B your Amazon link doesn’t work. Can you reshare?
Love your channel!
what are your thoughts about vaccines, do you think there are some necessary ones?
Dont get too caught up if you made one of those mistakes. It doesnt mean you’re a bad parent, correct the mistake to your best abilities and keep taking care of your child❤
I really love that you said the parents job is to offer safety and comfort for them to fall asleep and their job is to use that opportunity or not. This applies to so many things in parenting.
all good advice except for the undocumented EMF part
my moms pregnant with a boy and the babys due feburary 17th to 19th 2025 and its my first time being a big sister thats 10 years old also can newborns drink from baby bottles instead breastfeed because seeing breastfeeding makes me disgusted because its skin to skin and yes ik its important but i try my best to avoid it and how old do they have to be to drink from baby bottles
I was thinking on you when I was feeling strong contractions, all your videos give me strength to go through labor and now I'm happy at home with my baby girl , thank you so much for your content and contribution to delivery and parenting❤
LMAO, she thinks that electromagnetic spectrum hurts brain development? What is that babbling delusion from 7:50 onwards?
Doesn't she know that… "the EMF" is constantly going through her? Cellular, Wi-Fi, Radio, TV, even the electric wires in hour home emit easily detectable "EMF". Holding your smartphone in the pocket/bag won't hurt your child! It's an idiotic conspiracy. You shouldn't expose your kid to the screen, not "the frequencies". Brains are not "sponges" that absorb "the radiation", what's wrong with you? Stop absorbing some insane crazy-mama BS into YOUR brain.
